Crime falls across Gedling as police report drop in thefts and anti-social behaviour

Crime figures across Gedling moved in the right direction during July, with reductions in shoplifting, robbery and anti-social behaviour, according to the latest update from neighbourhood policing inspector Steve King.

Inspector King said keeping communities safe remains the force's top priority, with officers continuing to work alongside residents, businesses and partner organisations to tackle the issues that matter most locally.

The latest figures show acquisitive crime, which includes offences such as burglary, robbery, shoplifting and theft, fell by 13.9% during July.

Shoplifting was down by 14.6%, robbery fell by 27.8%, and thefts from motor vehicles dropped by 37.5%.

Inspector King said the reductions reflected the work of local officers and ongoing partnerships with businesses and communities across the borough.

One recent success saw Amy Bird sentenced to 46 weeks in prison after committing a series of offences including theft from a motor vehicle in Netherfield and shop theft.

Police say they remain focused on targeting prolific offenders responsible for causing the greatest harm to local communities.

Despite the overall fall in crime, officers are continuing to investigate a linked series of commercial burglaries, while thefts of vans and motorcycles remain a policing priority.

Residents are being urged to take simple steps to protect their vehicles, including removing valuables and tools overnight, using steering locks or trackers, parking in secure and well-lit locations and reporting suspicious activity.

There was also positive news on anti-social behaviour, with incidents falling by 16.4% during July.

However, concerns remain around youth-related anti-social behaviour and the misuse of off-road bikes and e-bikes in parks, open spaces and residential areas.

In response, officers have increased patrols in hotspot areas and are working with partner agencies to identify offenders, engage with young people and take enforcement action where necessary.

Inspector King highlighted recent work at Newstead Country Park, where dedicated patrols and engagement activities have been used to tackle nuisance vehicle use and anti-social behaviour. The operation is expected to continue throughout the summer.

Drug-related crime also remains a key priority for Gedling's neighbourhood policing team.

While recorded drug supply offences increased during July, police say this is largely due to proactive operations targeting those involved in illegal drug dealing.

A recent example was the case of Craig Dickman, who was jailed for three years after neighbourhood officers stopped him in Daybrook in May 2025 and recovered drugs and weapons.

Police say the case demonstrates the importance of intelligence-led patrols and proactive neighbourhood policing.

Inspector King also stressed the importance of community engagement, with officers attending a number of local events across Gedling over the summer to speak directly with residents about local concerns.

Regular Beat Surgeries continue across the borough, including at Arnold Town Centre Market on the first Friday of every month.

Residents are encouraged to speak to officers while on patrol, report concerns and share information to help shape local policing priorities.
