🍳 Three more Gedling borough schools sign up to Government's free breakfast club scheme

Three more schools in Gedling borough will soon be offering free breakfast clubs as the landmark scheme continues to expand across the the country.
The government confirmed yesterday (2) that over 300,000 more children in the UK will benefit from Best Start free breakfast clubs this Spring with more schools signing up to the scheme.
The latest borough schools to sign up to the Government initiative are:
Carlton Junior Academy
Carlton Infant Academy
Arnold Mill Primary and Nursery School
New figures show schools already enrolled on the programme have saved families up to £450 per year, while giving them up to 95 hours of precious time back each morning. Meanwhile, children are benefitting from healthy breakfasts and being in school earlier, with evidence showing improved attendance, attainment and behaviour.
The Government is now calling on more primary schools to sign up, as new polling reveals nearly half (45%) of parents prioritise schools offering them.
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said: "Free breakfast clubs are revolutionising morning routines up and down the country, becoming an essential part of modern-day life for working families.
"From settling a child into the school day to helping parents get to work, free breakfast clubs are giving every child the best start in life - delivering on our plan for national renewal.
“I was raised by a single parent, so I know first-hand the struggles facing parents trying to make ends meet and how important it is to tackle outdated stigmas with practical support that people can feel every day.”
New schools can sign up to the scheme with applications now open for 1,500 more places starting this September.
🏗️ Work on £20m regeneration plan for Carlton to begin in April
Work to create £20m of improvements to parts of Gedling borough will begin in April, it has been announced.
The Greater Carlton Regeneration Plan was launched back in 2024 by Gedling Borough Council and the new Greater Carlton Neighbourhood Board and has been described as 'the most ambitious, community-led transformation programme the area has seen in a generation'.
Developed as part of the Government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods and the wider Pride in Place programme, the scheme will deliver positive improvements for more than 53,000 residents in the designated area.
The council and Town Board say the plan has been shaped by extensive community engagement, with hundreds of residents contributing through surveys, workshops, school discussions and business engagement.
Investment is to be balanced across Greater Carlton, while providing targeted support in areas facing the greatest challenges, including parts of Netherfield, Carlton Hill and Cavendish.
The plan will also recognise and build on the area’s strong industrial, cultural and natural heritage.

🏉 MATCH REPORT: Paviors Rugby Club 41- 28 West Bridgford
This weekend Pavs welcomed West Bridgford RFC to The Stump in the latest round of the Midlands Regional 2 North competition.
This early season away fixture saw a rather understrength Pavs squad finish a long way second despite battling hard and scoring 28 points themselves.
It was WB who made the more determined start, scoring after five minutes and taking a 0-7 lead. Pavs then grabbed the initiative, and moved the ball to the width for the speedy Luke Snowden to dive in at the corner. George Billam added the conversion from the touchline to level things up at 7-7 with nine minutes gone.
On twenty six minutes, mercurial Dan Stokes added a further try and with the Billam extras gave Pavs the lead at 14-7.
As Pavs piled on the pressure, talismanic prop Dan Hyams battled over the line to extend Pavs lead to 19-7 on thirty one minutes.
Five minutes later, things turned somewhat awry as first prop Tom Ryan was carded, quickly followed by the unlucky Hyams. Pavs tried to see out the half, bringing on Archie Hall and taking off Luke Snowden to balance the team appropriately. It was not to be, as WB sensibly moved the ball wide and scored to narrow things up to 19-14 at the break.
Pavs began the second half in determined mood, keeping the ball up the jumper as they waited for the return of their binned players. In fact, Pavs added to their score with a Billam penalty minutes into the second half to bring the score to 22-14 with most of the half to go.
Five minutes later WB again found space to bring themselves back in contention at 22-21. Pavs welcomed back Hyams on forty nine minutes as they returned to full strength. In the next ten minutes, Pavs took control of the game. Phil Eggleshaw, battled over on fifty six minutes to put Pavs further in front at 27-21. This was quickly added to when fit again hooker, Owen Taylor cut through the WB defence to touch down and give Pavs some breathing space at 34-21 with just eighteen minutes to go.
The home side then rang the changes with talented youngster Kyle Burney taking over from the rugged Richard Hutchinson and the sparky Jack Stanford replacing Jonty Green at scrum half.
With ten minutes to go, the excellent Matt Molyneux finished Pavs scoring and George Billam added the extras to take the score to 41-21.
A little miscommunication led to a further WB try to leave the final score at 41-28 as the official signalled the end of a hugely entertaining affair, fine fare indeed for the gathered faithful at a crowded Burntstump.
Next weekend Pavs travel to Old Saltleians RFC near Birmingham, hoping to continue their recent good form.
