Parish changes

As a result of a Community Governance Review, the former St Albans Parish Council has been dissolved and two new parishes have been formed; Deer Park and St Albans.

Both parishes received fewer nominations than seats in the elcections process so neither election was contested.

Annual Parish Council Meetings will take place at the Emmanuel Church Bestwood on Wednesday 13 May for St Albans Parish and on Thursday 14 May for Deer Park Parish Council.  After these meetings have happened and policies and clerks are in place, the new parishes will be fully functional and will be able to co-opt to their vacant seats.

Modella Capital, which bought WHSmith’s high street arm last year and rebranded it as TG Jones, is reportedly drawing up a major restructuring plan in a bid to avoid the chain collapsing.

The chain has a store on Arnold's high street.

A glorious sustainability festival is taking over Nottingham city centre later this month

Green Hustle is back — and Nottingham is about to become the greenest, most chaotic, most wholesome you’ve ever seen.

The city’s free eco‑festival Green Hustle is returning on Saturday, May 30, and honestly, it’s doing the absolute most. Think food, fashion, forests, poetry, puppets, skateboarding, science, a giant silver acorn (yes, really), and enough wholesome community vibes to make you forget you haven’t watered your houseplants since Easter.

Nottingham is about to be overrun by puppets (and honestly, we’re kind of here for it)

Clear your diaries because the Nottingham Puppet Festival is officially back for round four, landing in the city from Saturday, June 27 to Sunday 5 July 2026 – and it’s bigger, bolder, and puppety‑er than ever.

Funded by Arts Council England and run by Theatre Royal & Royal Concert Hall with City Arts, the festival is basically turning half of Nottingham into a puppet playground. Think libraries, cinemas, community centres and theatres suddenly full of giant animals, walking sculptures and slightly chaotic performances.
